One of the three projects we began when my family was here last week was painting the ceiling and adding recessed lighting. I always wanted it in there, but that was one of the last projects on our list.
We thought we would have to put up molding on the ceiling to conceal wires, but since dad is a professional, he had a series of holes cut to fish the wires through and then had them repaired, mudded and ready to paint all within a few hours.
(We are hoping to have the walls finished by Tuesday night, and then I’ll show you the rest of the room.)
In addition to the four recessed lights, I want a pendant or chandelier in the center of the room. So we ran the wire for that as well.
Not sure yet what type of light will be there. We were always leaning towards a drum shade, but I have yet to be able to find one that is wide enough in our price range.
The fixture will also need to be quite shallow since our ceilings are just shy of 8 feet tall.
Here are some ceiling lights I’m considering DIYing, if possible:
Have you ever made your own light fixture? I’ve seen some tutorials to make your own fabric drum shade, but I don’t think I’m quite up to that challenge.

This is beautiful! Truly! Ah those spot lights. And the white ceiling. How amazing that you got your dad to help.
ReplyDeleteFor your style I like the number three of the shades best. I have only rewired a light fixture, never have I made one.
You know my style so well. I am still leaning towards #3, just trying to figure out how to make it.
DeleteThe Hubs likes number 4 and number 1. We'll see.
Those lights are amazing! I love the detailing on the shades! I need to try to make one of those!
