How about another basement sneak peak?

October 31, 2013by Christina
As usual in our house, a small project turns into a big one, then a huge one.  We were going to simplify and organize our junk in the basement…now we’re water-proofing and pouring concrete (among many other things).  Because of all the extra work we’re doing, we’re not even close to finished yet, but we […]

As usual in our house, a small project turns into a big one, then a huge one.  We were going to simplify and organize our junk in the basement…now we’re water-proofing and pouring concrete (among many other things).  Because of all the extra work we’re doing, we’re not even close to finished yet, but we can show you another one of our simple projects that has made a really big difference.

Remember last year when we fixed up our basement door?  Well, the other side still looked like this:

Adding a light to the hallway was the first thing we did in this simplify-the-basement project.  Then we worked on that ugly wall.  It’s kind of important for this area to not be hideous, because when we have the heat on in the house, we need to keep the basement door open, and the basement door is in the dining room.

We had purchased some faux brick panels and painted them white for another project, but we didn’t end up using them.

See the little white paw prints on the top right? See the little white paws?  He doesn’t understand the concept of wet paint…go figure.

So we used them to cover the ugly basement wall.

That looks awesome, and with a lot of “old basement” charm. Perfect for a victorian 🙂

Thank you, Abbe. Hopefully the whole basement will feel that way soon.

Oh, it looks so much better and somehow, like it has always been there and belongs to the house!

That’s one cool panel, I’ve never seen anything like that, I’ve just seen brick looking wallpaper, but that is not really 3D.
Good luck with the basement renovation!

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
