The Victorian

Update: This was a progress post, to see the finished office, click here.
Happy Monday!  Wanna see our mess?I was really hoping to have some projects to show for the craft room/office/guest room today.  We’ve already had a setback.  The electrical wiring in this room is over 60 years old, frayed and poorly installed.  The wires are also stapled to the studs, so we can’t use them to fish new wires in.  Because of all that (and more) we will actually have to remove the walls in this room in order to rewire it.

It was supposed to be repainted by today!  Unfortunately, this also means no overhead lighting for me unless we are going to remove the ceiling as well and I really don’t like the thought of that.

Instead of showing you progress like I hoped for, I’ll just be brave now and share some photos of the space as it currently is.

Until late last week, I had been working on a tiny little drop leaf table. Then I stole hubby’s desk. Okay, I didn’t steal it, I asked. He got a better deal anyway, I just had to replace it before he got back to finish his work day from his home office.  But this desk is so big!  I can fit all of my junk materials on it and still have room to work.

This is my big, wonderful, beautiful bed that I’ve mentioned before.  But, unfortunately, a twin size bed isn’t ideal when you have couples coming to stay with you.  So the bed will be moved out and replaced with a little sofa bed.

Ugh, those tubs in front of the bed and several that are under it all contain fabric.  Anyone know of a space-efficient way to store loads of fabric in a non-ugly way?

Can’t wait to have this stuff organized and looking good.

I love my new wide-angle lens.  Even though it’s only currently capturing a giant mess.  The poor dollhouse has survived a couple earthquakes and a little hurricane of a girl who shall remain nameless.  Hubby graciously agreed to share his office space with the dollhouse, so that will be out of here too.

And there’s the chandelier that was going to be repainted turquoise.  Hopefully we’ll find another home for it.

We currently have every piece of furniture that can store things jammed in here because otherwise all my stuff would be on the floor.  Permanent and pretty storage in this room will be quite a challenge.

So that’s where I am today.  Wish I had something pretty or clever to share with you.  Hopefully very soon we’ll get to show you some progress!  It’s been so long since I’ve tried to make such a small room serve so many functions, anyone have any tips or advice?

Dude. I feel you on the fabric storage.
I have a (hopefully) brilliant storage idea, that I’ve sourced supplies for, but somehow it hasn’t quite materialized. Mostly because sandblasting is involved which means my husband is involved, which means it won’t happen soon. So I have my fabric/leather stuffed in a large soiled-linen bag I ‘borrowed’ from work (hospital). For now.
Jealous of your new desk. And so, so sorry you have to replace not only wiring, but walls as well. What a pain in the ass.
And your dollhouse looks fab for so many storms and such 😉 Living in New England, I’m the only natural disaster my dollhouse ever has to withstand.
If I magically come up with a better way to store fabric, or finish my idea, I’ll let you know, asap!

Sweet, can’t wait to see your idea! Oh, and I’m totally stealing your Dremel storage idea too, that was brilliant. 🙂

I once saw similar picture to this http://cottagebelles.blogspot.com/2010/06/bogo-sale-at-cottage-belles-fabric.html and fell for it. I’m hoping to create something similar. This is the same way many fabrics are stored in the stores so I believe it could be handy way. And you can instantly see what you have.
More about storage. I would probably suggest one massive storage system, instead of many small. And using as much wall space as you can.

Ouch about the wires, I wish you lot of strength for finishing it.

That wall of fabric is enough to make me drool! I’d love to see yours if you get to make one too. One storage system in here is a really good idea, I can’t wait to get rid of all these mismatched shelves.

I feel your pain. Most of the wiring in our house has been replaced. We have to wire and frame in walls for my craft room too. So far the walls are mostly framed.

I’m going to build floor to ceiling cupboards, with mostly closed doors to hide the mess lol! Going up is the best way to get tons of storage. Let me know if you figure out a great way to store fabric. I’ve got a ton! Have a great weekend!

Wow, you too?! I’m going to have to follow you to see how you do it. Maybe we should just build in storage since we’ll have the walls off. That’s a great idea.

House update! The realtor is still confused about House update! The realtor is still confused about why "it's such a popular house." When she arrived yesterday for a showing, there were 8 cars in the driveway. 😃

We had three offers the first day, one of whom hadn't even seen the house in person yet.
Surprise! The house is going on the market today. Surprise! The house is going on the market today. (Long story that I'll fill you in on when I have more than 2 seconds.)
.
But we're once again with a realtor that calls our house "unique" instead of calling it a Mid Century Modern. 🤦‍♀️
.
We can't count how many locals came into this house and mentioned that those windows should be removed and walled up and the beams cut off. And then it would be a "normal" house. 🤯
.
Still can't really identify with people in this area. 🤷‍♀️ SO happy to be going back home to the East coast TOMORROW!
Right? We're getting back into the house restorat Right?
We're getting back into the house restoration and we'll be working on the powder room in the master bed.
Guys. It's bad. Swipe to see.
And we're going to try to make it pretty with a super tiny budget of $100 in 4 weeks and we're joining the #100roomchallenge to keep us (me) motivated.
