Finished painting!

We’re finally done painting in the office/craft room/guest room!  Here are a couple photos for you: It’s so light and bright and shiny in here now, I just love it.  And I get to stare at that beautiful red maple even as I’m typing this post.  The only downside is that the bright, fresh walls […]

We’re finally done painting in the office/craft room/guest room!  Here are a couple photos for you:

It’s so light and bright and shiny in here now, I just love it.  And I get to stare at that beautiful red maple even as I’m typing this post.

The only downside is that the bright, fresh walls and ceiling now make the floor look even more dingy.  I was hoping to paint those now, but we just couldn’t work it out since we have no other room to put all this furniture in.  So, I need a rug to distract from them as soon as possible.

I’ll show you the other side of the room in the future, right now it’s just full of books and things and not very pretty.  We picked out our sofa and will be buying it soon (I’ll post about how we picked it out later this week).  It’s coming together!

I’m also trying to think of a way to make the window air conditioner unit less ugly without interfering with the functionality.  Anyone have any ideas?

Wow! What a difference paint makes – I went back and looked at your before pictures, the new paint makes the entire room so fresh and airy. I can tell you’re going to love working in this space. 🙂

Oh! I didn’t even think to put a before pic in this time. Sorry you had to go looking for it. 🙂

Yes, I have an idea for the air conditioner. Why don’t you faux finish it to look like a window. 🙂 It might work.

Ha! I could paint the view of the back yard on it.

    Yay!! looking good!
Could you cover the airconditioner similarly as a radiator. Like this: https://chezlarsson.com/myblog/2011/12/the-radiator-cover-part-ii.html

That’s a great idea! Thanks for the link, I will have to look into that that would take this week.

Love the blue! Are you doing curtains? If you want to keep the light you could sew curtains with sheers on the top 2/3s covering the window and then an opaque solid or print horizontal stripe over the AC unti. When not in use you’d still get the light, when in use you could add buttons/snaps on the inside of the sheers and fold the horizontal strip under so it doesn’t cover the AC unit.

Something like this: sheers with pink horizontal stripe 2/3s way down the page:

Another great idea! I hadn’t decided on curtains yet, but I really like that idea, thank you!

I love the blue. Evreything looks bright and airy.

About the window unit…i have one too. Ugly. While watching ‘Selling New York’ I noticed that a multi-million dollar loft had a window unit. The potential buyers didn’t even say anything in regards to it. To put central ac in the space would have ruined the original tin ceiling which was beautiful.

So the moral of the story is, sometimes function trumps aesthetics. No one even notices it. or at least that is what I am telling myself 🙂

It’s beautiful! If you really want to paint the floors you could move all the furniture to one side, paint half the floor….rinse and repeat. I had to do that once. 🙂 I am seriously jealous of your tree!

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
