The big picture: our whole-house floor plan

A long time ago, a commenter mentioned to me that it would be helpful for my readers if I would post a floor plan of our house. That was a great idea, and I had every intention of doing it. And then I forgot…as usual.

But I was reminded this week when Nicole gave us one of her new house.

I’d love to say I whipped one up this morning, but it takes some time to measure the whole house!  Here is our layout:

And the second floor:

Hopefully it all makes more sense to you now when you see pictures of various rooms.  If you go to the house tour page, you can see pictures of most of the rooms (though they need to be updated badly).

There are probably some things on there that don’t make much sense…our house has a lot of quirks.  For example, the fridge isn’t just hanging out in the dining room/mud room/weird spot, the previous owners actually built walls around it, so it’s a big fridge box.  (You can see part of it here.)  Feel free to ask questions if you’re confused!

What is above the kitchen? Balcony or just roof?
I guess I should do this too. A floor plan is always helpful, thanks for making one, I know it can be tricky to measure the rooms. I had always imagined the office to be downstairs 😀
Dumb question maybe but are those squares in feet?

Well, I’m glad I made it then! Just a roof over the kitchen, though we’ve talked about turning it into a balcony someday.

That’s not a dumb question at all, I didn’t even think to mention the scale. Each square does represent one foot.

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
