I need your help with my ugly little lamp

Uncategorized

Of course, we did a little shopping a couple weekends ago when we were part of the multi-family yard sale.  I picked up this little desk lamp for my office.  “An ugly little lamp” as The Hubs called it.

Knowing me, when we got home and unpacked our stuff, he immediately asked what color I was going to paint it.  But as soon as he asked the question, he excitedly said “Matte black!”  I said I had been thinking maybe turquoise or teal.  He really liked his matte black idea better though.  And after thinking about it, I like it too.  I believe every room needs at least one thing in black—no matter how small—to keep the room grounded.  (If you haven’t heard that before, I know it sounds funny, but try it and you’ll see.)

But I’m still torn.  And when I can’t decide between two options, I always do the logical thing and add three or four more options to the list.  So I need your help!  What color do you think I should paint the lamp?

Teal or turquoise?  Black?  Mint?  Maybe a dark, almost black purple?  Matte or gloss finish?

Have a great weekend!

I know! Thanks for your suggestions, definitely leaning toward matte so far too.

Matte black with a color stripe could look pretty dynamic

Ooooh, a stripe…thanks for adding *another* option. 😉 That is a neat idea.

I actually like it as it is. But if you do paint it, I vote for black and maybe matte.

I don’t mind the brass at all, but what didn’t show in the picture is that it’s seriously splotchy and discolored with a few rust spots. It hasn’t aged well.

Matte looks cooler, but gloss is easier to dust. I think the stripe idea is pretty cool. Black is intriguing, but I’d vote for turquoise.

Hadn’t even thought of the practicality of matte vs gloss. 🙂

I actually love the brass finish but would probably go with matt black as an alternative. I completely agree with the element of black in a room too! xx

You’ve broken the tie for black! Thanks for your suggestion, Anna.

So matte black it is? How about some tiny turquoise details? Like the little knob at the end, or a rim
Love to see the end result! 🙂

I love that idea, Anne! I didn’t think of anything like that. Hopefully it will be painted this week, so you’ll see it soon.

House update! The realtor is still confused about House update! The realtor is still confused about why "it's such a popular house." When she arrived yesterday for a showing, there were 8 cars in the driveway. 😃

We had three offers the first day, one of whom hadn't even seen the house in person yet.
Surprise! The house is going on the market today. Surprise! The house is going on the market today. (Long story that I'll fill you in on when I have more than 2 seconds.)
.
But we're once again with a realtor that calls our house "unique" instead of calling it a Mid Century Modern. 🤦‍♀️
.
We can't count how many locals came into this house and mentioned that those windows should be removed and walled up and the beams cut off. And then it would be a "normal" house. 🤯
.
Still can't really identify with people in this area. 🤷‍♀️ SO happy to be going back home to the East coast TOMORROW!
Right? We're getting back into the house restorat Right?
We're getting back into the house restoration and we'll be working on the powder room in the master bed.
Guys. It's bad. Swipe to see.
And we're going to try to make it pretty with a super tiny budget of $100 in 4 weeks and we're joining the #100roomchallenge to keep us (me) motivated.
