First of all, where in the world have we been?

I recorded a video for you explaining it, but my video and audio were WAY out of sync, so it didn’t work.  Booo.

So here’s what happened: the Hubs got a new job, we moved, moved again, then moved back home, within the last 5 months. His job was 2 hours away and that’s a long daily drive, so we were renting (a townhouse at first, then a 1920s duplex).  We would stay there during the week and then come home for the weekends.  It’s a complicated situation, and moving back home full-time was bittersweet.  We were renting in a really great town, and it was actually really fun having two places.  But, home we are, and very excited to start blogging again.

But things will be a little different:

Blogging has changed SO much since I started this blog in 2011.  Back then it used to be generally one of two things: you had one specific thing that you worked on constantly (like renovating a house, or baking 5 times a week, or a miniatures hobby you worked on almost daily), or you were a “curator” constantly pulling together beautiful inspiration.

It was really fun back then, but it’s just not the way it is anymore.

Those of us who just did one thing, either ran out of things to do (some kept buying bigger and better houses and were able to keep their blogs going), or just got tired of doing the same thing every day after so many years.

When Pinterest came along, the curating types had to change their blogs because everyone could do that themselves now.

Working on other people’s blogs every day, I know how they’ve changed, and I try to keep up with forecasts of how they will continue to change for the sake of my clients.  And where it’s going is even more fun than before.

How Little Victorian will change:

For over 6 years, this was a home renovation & DIY blog, and then we suddenly had no home renovations and DIYs going on, so I stopped blogging.  Well I’m just tired of that, and I’m going to blog anyway.  We still don’t have renovations going on because…well, we’ve had other things going on.

My tagline since 2011 has been the Albert Hadley quote:

Decorating is about creating a quality of life.

And it’s so true, and I love it just as much as I always have.  But the older I get, the more another quote of his means to me:

Make your home as comfortable and attractive as possible and then get on with living. There’s more to life than decorating.

The blog isn’t going to just be about renovating and decorating anymore; it’s going to have a lot more about the home as a whole, and how to make a good life in it (also known as homemaking).

And I’m also hoping to include video content and tutorials whenever I can (assuming I can get my tech straightened out).

Of course, there will still be plenty about decor and renovations, because…amazing MCM in need of loving restoration…

Take a look around!  The new site was so much fun to build.  🤓

The hope is for the blog to be more of a resource rather than just a journal of what we’re doing, so you can now browse through categories at a glance rather than having to scroll through every single (entire) post and then click on page after page.  You can skip around and read what’s relevant to you.  Some of the categories are going to be pretty sparse at first since their new, but they’ll fill up soon!  And there is still some organizing to do of old posts (going through over 6 years will take some time).

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
