The dollhouse, reinvented

January 27, 2012by Christina

When the original deadline was at hand, I shoved a bunch of junk in my dollhouse because it was the right size and it made it look like a real house.  Then after the deadline was extended, I wasn’t really motivated to work on it much at all, because it was ugly.  So with the second deadline looming, I was about to do the same thing again, shove stuff in there that made it look like a house.  Then I realized: who cares if it looks like a real house, this is my little fantasy house and I’d rather have it empty than full of junk I don’t like just so I can post pictures of it.

Inspired by this gorgeous desk, I threw my ugly old one out and made this one:

I plan on putting a nice, glossy finish on the desk.  The walls have been re-painted and I am ready to make another, different style desk for the “Hers” side of the office.

All the wallpaper has been stripped back off the bedroom and I am making some architectural additions.

Originally, I was putting “concrete” countertops in the kitchen, but scrapped that when I couldn’t get them together fast enough.  I went back to the concrete this week and finished it.

And somewhere else in the house, something is hanging from the ceiling by ropes instead of having boring old legs on the floor.  Because it’s way more fun.

Be back next week with some more little details before I (hopefully) have it finished for Feb 1st.

Have a great weekend!

So I’m watching a Hoarders marathon, and when I read that you’d shoved a bunch of junk in your house I immediately thought of this tiny “Got Junk” truck out back, and a mini-psychologist tackling family problems that led to all the junk in the first place…

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
