The living room is finally presentable

As I’m sure you could guess from my lack of posting, we have had zero progress on the powder room.  Well, not quite zero.  Our tiles were delivered and we picked out the lumber for the sink base at an architectural salvage shop.  But we’ve been so busy with other things and, as a great blogger recently said, it’s summer and we’re trying to enjoy it.

I have been tidying up the house the last couple days.  You know how it is when remodeling, there is a bed in the living room along with 6 cans of paint and a leaf blower.  And in the dining room, the bag of power tools and the laundry basket full of table linens that has been in the corner for a year while.

Once the living room was a little more presentable, I realized that you’ve never seen it!

Black and white living room

It’s not even remotely finished.  But it’s livable, so it will be one of the last rooms we officially redo.

The walls will be painted, the floor will be repainted (at least the chipped entryway section), the globe and chest moved to The Hubs attic office, and the sofa probably re-upholstered again.  Oh, and add some real lighting, like in the ceiling, with a switch, that would be so much more pleasant than fumbling around and knocking the shade off center when we get home after dark.   That plant is also a beast, wish we had a bigger space to put it in.  I would love to have two tall skinny trees in each far corner of the room.  We also want to make the entrance to the dining room bigger (it’s next to the globe) and then build a whole wall of built-ins where the TV is.  Big plans.

So this is where we spend our evenings.  Now you know.

Any suggestions for the future re-upholstering of the sofa?  I love the current fabric, but it would have been more flattering on a smaller piece, like a chair.

Wow, you weren’t kidding about that plant! I love your black chairs. What color are you going to put on the walls?

Thanks Anita. Not sure about the colors yet, I was thinking an oatmeal white, but I’ll probably change my mind again. 🙂

  2. Anna Williams

Love that coffee table and I think the sofa upholstery is amazing! Loved seeing your powder room tiles above as well xx

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
