The wall is back up and we built some furniture!

Last week was a little slow on the blog.  We were working hard on the powder room, but none of it was very pretty yet.

But here’s where we are today:

Powder room remodel wall cubby and sink base

We finished hanging the drywall and got the first coat of mud on.

We also built our sink base from old fence posts and ceiling beams from the architectural salvage store.  We’re pretty happy with it.  Of all the DIY projects we’ve done in this house, this is the first piece of furniture we built from scratch.

With a small section of the leftover fence post, we built a cubby into the wall to hold soap and toiletries above the sink.

Next up:

  • The second coat of mud on the walls (today!) and then painting as soon as possible
  • Laying the new marble floor tiles
  • Turning the serving bowl into a vessel sink (that will get a whole post to itself once it’s done)
  • Plumbing the sink and putting it all back together

We’re getting there!

Oh, and exciting news: I’ve been nominated for the Homies on Apartment Therapy!  You guys are fantastic!  Thank you so much.  Feel free to stop by and vote if you haven’t already.  🙂

Wohoo! Things are starting to look good. I do like the sink base, especially the top view looks really nice.

I love the cubby idea, built-ins are a weakness of mine. The vanity came out awesome!!

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
