Ugly old sideboard to TV stand

I know, I’m several months behind on this one, but I just discovered Nesting Place’s31 Days of Lovely Limitations.  And I am excited about it.  Day 2 was about reusing dressers with missing drawers and it reminded me of our living room media cabinet.  Originally, the one I really wanted for the living room cost more than I wanted to spend, so I complained for a couple months before deciding to just save up for it.  By then, it was too late, and they didn’t sell it anymore.  So I headed to Craigslist and found this not-so-pretty thing:

This was the listing photo, unfortunately it’s the only “Before” I have.
I can’t remember exactly how much it was, but I know I made an offer and she accepted and it was under $100 (a savings of over $250 over the original one I wanted).

So I removed the pulls and handles, filled the holes, sanded, primed and painted it white.  Now, this sideboard wasn’t already missing a drawer, but I did remove the top one and replace it with plywood so we would have a spot for the TV components that needed remotes.

We drilled a hole through the back of the cabinet to fish all the cords to the through and mounted a power strip inside the cabinet so the cords would all be hidden inside.

And I painted the inside red, because it’s just more fun that way.  It would also be really cute as extra storage in a nursery or girly bedroom.

Totally gorgeous! I love this idea. And the red makes it.

Thanks, man. Yeah, without the red, I think it’d be a little too sweet.

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
