We wanted a new mailbox anyway

What a weekend we had.

It started Friday afternoon with a thunk.  Literally.  I was working in my office and heard one that sounded like metal, more specifically, like a mailbox.  I looked out the window and saw a shiny, new black vehicle swerving and speeding off.

This is what we saw when we ran outside:

See it laying under the tree?  I expected to find a dented mailbox, but he did way better than that, he broke the whole post off at ground-level.  Time to go to Home Depot.  While we were installing the new post and mailbox, a shiny, black truck drove by.  That truck had a front headlight out and good-sized white dent in the side, just about level with where our mailbox had been standing.  He just kept driving.

We did (eventually) want to replace the old one anyway, so now we get to take that off our project list.  The new one just needs the post painted and house numbers applied.

On Sunday, we moved everything out of the office to make way for the sofa that will be arriving later this week.   It also made room for re-wiring.  Which is done.  Finally!  And it’s awesome.  There is a light switch, that actually turns on a light.  And there are 4 working, grounded outlets, as opposed to one non-grounded one.  We didn’t have to put  a single hole in the walls because we realized that the walls are unfinished between the baseboard radiators and the floor, so all the studs are exposed and it was really easy to fish the new wires in and out.

I have a bunch of small projects lined up for this week as I try to figure out what to do for storage.  What did you work on this weekend?

What? They drove by again?!? How busy is your street, I wonder if it’s someone that lives nearby. That’s such a bummer. The new box looks great but probably more work you hadn’t planned on for your weekend. At least it was an easy fix.
I’m familiar with that sound, we had a similar sideswiping that I heard from my kitchen, but the driver damaged two cars, ran over a small tree in our front yard and drove through our neighbors fence. My car was 4 feet from getting hit. It took one month before our homeowners association fixed her fence, but everything is back to good, minus the tree.
At least you weren’t attached to the old mailbox. Yay for working light switch.

Why did the driver not come to say he iss sorry and try to somehow compensate the mail box, it’s not even an expensive thing. Pretty bad behavior.

But glad you got a new box that you like.

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
