Several years ago, when we lived in an apartment building, some friends came to visit, but they forgot to write down our apartment number. As they wandered around our building, the guy saw a doormat that looked similar to this:
And he said “Look at that door mat, that has to be them!” Of course, it was us.
Up to that point, I had never thought all that much about doormats. So I stepped outside and looked at all the other front doors. Only about 1 in 8 even had a doormat and if they did, it was either plain paper-bag-brown or just said “Welcome.”
I guess that door mat showed our personality. And in a sea of apartments, it lead our friends to us.
That one began fading from the sun, and I saw this one and just couldn’t resist:
So true.
But it’s about time to retire the poor doormat, because lately, it was looking more like this:
(Rollover to see the new doormat–just because I love rollovers.)
It’s good to give the front porch something fresh for the spring anyway.
I picked up the new one for only $13. There are so many cute doormats out there now, and you can really get a lot of impact for under $20. Being the first thing that guests see, it’s a great place to greet them with some warmth and personality.
What do you have outside your front door?
Our doormat is just a big green grass like rug. We actually inherited it with the apartment, so I cannot say it really tells a lot about us.
That new doormat is cool, the colours are neat. I like the stripy one too that you used to have, I think I could now have something like that.
We always do a natural material with no backer, because we get so much rain here. It would just get waterlogged otherwise. So, ours are usually brown, but I try to pick an interesting weave at least!
Good point, Tammi! Our back deck isn’t covered like the front porch (and we have no gutters–so rain just dumps right over the door like a waterfall). So we have a the backless brown one there, but it’s in a nautical-looking weave.
Where did you get the “hello!” one? I love it!
Thank you; it’s from Target.
