I did, in fact, get something accomplished this week.

New bathroom shelves

But, I’m not done with them yet.  3 things are bothering me:

1. The top shelf seems too high–I might take it down and lower it.

2. The natural color of the wood isn’t so great in this room…more staining will be in my future. What do you think? The same light driftwood gray as the kitchen or a cool dark like Jacobean?

3. We need a different container or two for the toiletries for better shelf styling.

While I’m deciding on the shelves (which you know takes me forever), I’ll trim the door and install the baseboard.  If I still haven’t decided, maybe I can finish trimming the window, and patching/painting the ceiling?

Very nice! I’d go for a dark stain – the arrangement on the shelves looks very nice and elegant, but their color blends in a fair bit with the wall. Of course, this could just be the way the photo comes through on my personal screen.

A dark shelf would help make the nicer toiletries pop, and provide a little more visual interest. The picture itself is very white and beige, which isn’t a bad thing, but I personally like *something* to stand out. I think the driftwood grey is amazing for the kitchen, but it would be a little too bland here. Plus, making a continuity between your kitchen and your bathroom might not provide the best psychological link 😉

Haha! Good point, Abbe! 🙂 I think you’re right about the color…you’ve convinced me.

Love the way you have placed the towel rod on the brackets! Genious!
I too would stain the shelves darker or paint them warm gray.
All in all the area looks really nice and pleasing.

Thanks! That was a last minute idea, it’s actually just a curtain rod.

Definitely agree with the dark stain. I caught an episode of Rehab Junkie last night (very rare!) where she did dark cabinets in the bathroom and the makeover was just awesome!

Good to hear everyone is on the same page about the dark stain! It’s great when you guys make my decisions so easy for me. 🙂

I love the towels under the shelves! And hat’s off at you for accomplishing something this week: I didn’t !

Hi, I’m Christina.

Little Victorian is your place for inspiration, education, and encouragement for how to be your own interior designer and decorator, and how to carry out your big plans yourself too.

It starts with psychology, then artistry, and ends with power tools. None of those are scary, and you really can do it.
